THE NIGHT SKYJane

When I stop to look at the night sky, I am overwhelmed with astonishment. Viewing the product of so many births—explosions— creativity and eons ago — takes my breath away. I am conscious of the distance of history and the promise of the future. I know there is heat out there but also am aware of the coldness and desolation of the vast spaces I can barely comprehend. Over time, and with some patience, I have come to appreciate the order of the universe and the relationship between different parts of the galaxy spread before my eyes. The predictability of the future seems assured, but there is no guarantee.

I look to the nighttime heavens and see a promise of more births, a twinkle of hope for peace. I feel wrapped in the darkness, protected by anonymity, calmed by tranquility and assured by God’s love. And I look for the Man in the Moon.
